Search Engines80% of those who use the web use search engines to find the information they are looking for. They go to Yahoo or Google and type in a search term and away they go. However, most people are not expert web researchers - so their search terms are very simple.
For example, if they are looking for homes in Albany, New York; their search term will be
Albany Homes for SaleThey will not type in
Jimleonardrealestatesales.comSo making your web address as easily understood as possible is very important for getting ranked highly in a search engine listing.
Don't make the mistake of selecting a name that is ambiguous or vague. I often see realtors use their name as their web address. This is fine if you are the only realtor in town. Most likely your not - so save your name for your business cards and concentrate on finding a name that will draw clients to your site.

The Top 8 Web Design Disasters: Are you sending your visitors screaming?
Domain Name Tips
The best domain names for realtors include the words home/homes and the name of the city they are located in. For example the following domain names will pull visitors like a lemonade stand on a hot Texas day:
www.detroit-homes.com
www.albany-homes-for-sale.com
www.Irvine-homes-for-sale.com
www.southeast-michigan-homes.com
www.troy-dream-homes.com
In all of the names, I'm sure you noticed that I used dashed in the name. This is perfectly ok - and some search engine experts believe that the dash may actually help your search engine listing rank. The main reason I used the dashes is because it is more likely that the name will be available. Many of the easier domain names such as www.clevelandhouse.com have been taken.
So before you invest a lot of time and money into your lead generation web site - make sure you have the right name.
If you want to check to see if your name is available visit www.nsi.com - just enter your name in the search field and hit "go". The site will let you know if the name is available. If it isn't it will give you a list of alternatives that are available. This is a great time-saver.
Happy hunting!
